Valley For Change is a partner with 2nd Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara County
and is participating in the Share A Lunch Program to raise funds that will be used to feed our neighbors who, each month, have to decide between paying for rent, utilities, or medicine and providing food for their loved ones.
Our goal is to raise $500 and we cannot do it without you. If you donate only $10, we will reach our goal and provide children with the most basic human need: food.
It is OK to surpass our goal!! Click here for instructions on how to donate.

Backyard Produce Donations
What to do with your extra home-grown produce
The following advice and suggestions are from Second Harvest Food Bank:
In years past, Second Harvest Food Bank has been the lucky recipient of an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables lovingly gown by hobbyists in their backyards. Unfortunately, the light brown apple moth has taken a foothold in our region, and because of a state-mandated quarantine in areas of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, the Food Bank is unable to accept these generous donations. However, there are a couple of options. Village Harvest, a local non-profit, has an agreement with several County Agricultural Departments to inspect and harvest unpicked fruit from trees and distribute it inside and outside of the quarantined areas. Much of the harvested fruit is donated to Second Harvest Food Bank and finds it way to hungry families, children, and seniors through the Food Bank's direct distribution programs such as Family Harvest, Produce Mobile, and our extensive network of 328 partner agencies. For quarantine reasons, Village Harvest does not directly accept picked fruit.
Another option is for gardeners to contact a pantry or soup kitchen in their local area and inquire about their ability to accept non-commercially grown produce. |
